Students’ Accomplishments
Students Win Music Scholarships for College, Music Camps, and Private Schools
- In May 1996, one of Ms. Boesen’s North Harris College students received a full violin scholarship to Sam Houston State University.
- In May 1999, one of her high school seniors won a $6,000 violin scholarship to Bowling Green State University and another senior won an $8,000 violin scholarship to William Jewel College.
- In May 2001, one of Ms. Boesen’s high school seniors won a $6,000 violin scholarship to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
- In May 2003, one of her high school seniors received a violin scholarship to Hofstra University where he is currently Assistant Concertmaster of the Hofstra University Symphony Orchestra.
- Five of Ms. Boesen’s students have received violin scholarships for the Baylor University Summer String Camp.
- In May 1998, one of her junior high students received a violin scholarship at the City of London Freeman’s School in London, England. As a junior high student, this student also received the highest ranking possible in the United Kingdom Music System prior to attending college.
Students Study with Premier Music Professors in College - Ms. Boesen’s student who graduated from high school in 2003 and who is now a junior at Hofstra University, studies violin with Dr. Alexander Sharpe who holds the Bachelors degree from the Mannes College of Music, the Masters degree from The Julliard School, and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Sharpe also teaches at The Julliard School and New York University.
- In the Fall of 2004, one of Ms. Boesen’s Class of 2004 senior high school students was accepted for violin study in the studio of Brian Lewis, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. This student was one of 12 students who auditioned for only three available spots in Mr. Lewis’ studio. Mr. Lewis received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from The Julliard School.
Students Win High Ratings at Musical Competitions
- In February 2003, 100 percent of Ms. Boesen’s high school students who competed in the CISD Solo and Ensemble Competition received superior ratings for their solos. Five of these students competed at the State Texas Solo and Ensemble Contest in May 2003.
- In February 2003, 92 percent of her junior high students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
- In March 2003, 83 percent of her fifth and sixth graders received superior ratings for their solos at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
- In February 2004, 83 percent of Ms. Boesen’s high school students received superior ratings for either their solos and/or ensembles at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest. Six of these students competed at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May 2004. The year 2004 marked the first time that one of Ms. Boesen’s high school violists competed at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest as a viola soloist and as a violist in a string quartet.
- In February 2004, 85 percent of her junior high students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
- In March 2004, 100 percent of Ms. Boesen’s sixth grade students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
- In February 2005, 63 percent of her high school students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest. Five of these students competed at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition in May 2005.
- In February 2005, 66 percent of her junior high students received superior ratings for their solos at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
- In March 2005, 100 percent of her sixth grade students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
- In February 2006, 57 percent of Ms. Boesen’s high school students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Competition. These three students competed at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest with their solos and their quartets in May 2006.
- In March 2006, 100 percent of her junior high students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
- In March 2006, 71 percent of Ms. Boesen's sixth grade students received superior ratings at the CISD Solo and Ensemble Contest.
Students Win Chairs in Regional Orchestra Competitions - In October 2001, three high school violinists won chairs in the Regional High School Philharmonic Orchestra and two junior high violists and two junior high violinists won chairs in both of the regional junior high orchestras.
- In October 2002, one high school violinist won a chair in the Regional High School Symphonic Orchestra and four high school violinists won chairs in the Regional High School Philharmonic Orchestra.
- In January 2003, one high school student won a chair in the first violin section of the Texas Private Music School Educators Association All-State Orchestra.
- In October 2003, two high school violinists and one high school violist won chairs in the Regional High School Philharmonic Orchestra.
- In October 2003, one junior high violist won a chair in the Regional Junior High Symphonic Orchestra and three junior high violists won chairs in the Regional Junior High Philharmonic Orchestra.
- In October 2004, one high school violinist and two high school violist won chairs in the Regional High School Philharmonic Orchestra.
- In October 2004, one junior high violinist and one junior high violist won chairs in the Regional Junior High Philharmonic Orchestra.
- In October 2005, one high school violist won a chair in the Regional High School Symphonic Orchestra and one violist won a chair in the Regional High School Philharmonic Orchestra.
- In October 2005, one junior high violinist and two junior high violists won chairs in the Regional Junior High Philharmonic Orchestra and one junior high violinist was named as an alternate to this orchestra.
Students Hold Leadership Chairs in School and Community Orchestras - Many of Ms. Boesen’s students hold chairs of leadership in their school orchestras, such as Concertmaster, Principal of the second violin section, and Principal of the viola section.
- Three students have played in the Houston Youth Symphony. One high school violinist and one high school violist played in the Conroe Symphony in Conroe, Texas.
- One student was Concertmaster of the Montgomery County Youth Orchestra and another one was Principal of the second violin section and a viola student was Principal of the viola section of the Montgomery County Youth Orchestra.
- In April 1999, one of Ms. Boesen’s high school seniors performed with the Houston Youth Symphony in Carnegie Hall.
